BASIC EXPEDITION LEADERSHIP (SPORTS LEADERS UK - LEVEL 2): The Boys' Brigade in Birmingham are organising a BEL course delivered over four weekends and three day-long sessions between October 2010 to February 2011. To complete the BEL you will also be required to undertake 30 hours working and leading groups. This is an ideal course for those wishing to instruct within the Expedition Section of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Bronze and Silver levels in open, rural countryside; work towards the Volunteering Section of the Award; develop outdoor leadership skills and is a recognised National Governing Body qualification. The cost of the course is £175.00 and includes all tuition, registration and residential fees. Delegates will also complete the NVQ Level 2 in Sport, Recreation, and Allied Occupations: Activity Leadership qualification at no additional cost. The delivery will be in the Midlands area. Details: Dave Mayo Tel: 07734 567750 or e-mail dave.mayo@chasetrainingsolutions.co.uk
OUTDOOR FIRST AID: A two-day (16 hours) course is being organised, 25 - 26 September 2010, suitable for, and recognised by the majority of National Governing Bodies, such as Mountain Leaders Training UK, Sports Leaders UK, etc., for their awards i.e. Walking Group Leader Award; Mountain Leader Award; Level 2 Award in Basic Expedition Leadership. On successful completion candidates will be awarded a certificate which lasts for 3 years. This First Aid course looks at how to manage the situation when the ambulance does not turn up in 10 minutes time, and is appropriate for those working at all levels of DofE expedition supervision and other outdoor activities that take place in rural or more remote environments, unlike conventional First Aid courses for which the teaching is based on medical assistance arriving in a short space of time. The Interactive, hands-on training, which is delivered by a recognised HSE provider and fully experienced and professional trainers, who have an active interest and commitment to the outdoor environment and fully understand the issues, dilemmas and judgments required when dealing with incidents in potentially hostile remote environments, making the training highly relevant to your needs. A lot more emphasis is placed on incident management, monitoring casualties, and relaying information to Ambulance Crews and Mountain Rescue Teams. Minimal equipment is assumed (similar to what is already on your back) and plenty of practical scenarios are provided, with feedback and analysis given upon completion. Venue: Blackwell Adventure, Nr Bromsgrove, Worc's. Cost: £70.00 (without camping accommodation) or £74.00 (with camping accommodation on the Saturday eve
